As time goes on, the process of Knowledge (creation, validation and transfer) is no longer confined to Academe. There are few doubts that the present academic system tends to mortify, rather than promote, creativity. Although a number of corporations and firms have established centres for primary and fundamental research in their own field of interest, few have gone so far as to extend their field of speculation to the general wider area. Their focus and interests, however, tend to constrain both the scope and intellectual freedom of research.
"There is a need for creative and free research, whose scope needs no a priori limitation".
The vision of the SRSI is to become a centre of excellence in the study of Security and Risk, by acting as a hub between different countries, institutions, firms, scholars and researchers. Its mission is to create, share and promote knowledge of new security and risk concepts and methods within academe, institutions and reputed professional circles, with a view to contributing to produce and maintain safer, free and better conditions of life for people and society. Research at the SRSI will then cater for different needs. As a consequence it will have to be both theoretical and applied.
"No constraints will be put on the nature of the research apart from originality, robustness, and relevance to security and risk".
To cater for these needs and wants, the SRSI will pursue a three-tier strategy, comprising of Delphi, Round Tables and Research.
